Job Title: Nurse Practitioner
Reports To: Clinic Administrator
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Status: Full-time
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides primary health care and specialized health services to patients. Diagnose medical conditions, plan and implement interventions and evaluate patient responses under the direction of and in partnership with a collaborating physician. Provide direct patient care, perform medical diagnostic, therapeutic, and management functions under medical supervision using protocols or guidelines developed by the clinic and evidence bases practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
- Graduate of an American Medical Association (AMA) approved Nurse Practitioner program; and
- Two-years clinical experience in a related health care setting preferred.
Certificates, Licensure, Registrations:
- Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner (PA) in the State of Nebraska;
- Basic Life Support (BLS);
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); and
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to obtain and maintain national certification exam in specialty areas;
- Ability to quickly and independently adapt to different Electronic Medical Record (EMR) programs;
- Ability to provide excellent patient care in an efficient manner;
- Ability to ensure clinic meets local, state, and federal requirements;
- Ability to efficiently see a high number of patients daily to increase clinic’s practice; and
- Ability to take clinic call, as requested.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses, plans, prescribes, implements, and evaluates health care of patients using established protocols under the direction of a collaborating physician, according to the PA scope of practice.
- Orders, conducts and interprets laboratory, radiographic and diagnostic tests and procedures;
- Performs history taking, physical examination and assessment of initial and ongoing needs of the patient and family to identify health risks and needs;
- Writes and/or dictates progress notes, procedure notes, history and physical examinations, transfer/discharge summaries in accordance with medical records policies; and
- Performs diagnostic and stabilization procedures as identified in protocols.
- Formulates, prescribes and modifies the plan of care in collaboration with other healthcare team members, to achieve desired outcomes, according to the PA scope of practice.
- Evaluates patient response for achievement of desired outcomes; and
- Ensures appropriate communication with collaborating or supervising physician of pertinent healthcare information.
- Evaluates the processes and outcomes of patient care through participation in quality improvement efforts to enhance the delivery of excellent and cost-effective healthcare.
- Evaluates effectiveness of the plan of care for aggregate populations;
- Analyzes appropriateness of resource utilization compared to the level of services required;
- Evaluates cost and quality outcomes of the care provided;
- Participates in health education of patients, families, communities, healthcare providers and students, through identification of learning needs and/or provision of formal and informal learning.
- Maintains accountability and responsibility for professional development within Nurse Practitioner role by seeking educational opportunities to advance knowledge and skills in order to ensure safe and up to date practice within specialty area.
- Engages in professional activities such as attending professional educational conferences, writing articles for publication, participating in professional organizations and/or participating in research;
- Formulates short and long-term goals based on self-assessment of strengths and areas for improvement; and
- Maintains up to date knowledge of reimbursement issues as it applies to PA practitioners.
- Performs and maintains documentation.
- Documents accurately to ensure appropriate billing and reimbursement can be completed; and
- Documents accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status that reflect nursing interventions, patient responses, and patient teaching.
- Communicates effectively.
- Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities, and takes appropriate action;
- Appropriately reports condition changes to collaborating and/or supervising physician; and
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with other healthcare members regarding patient condition, patient satisfaction, needs, and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes.
- Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities.
- Administers treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to healthcare provider orders;
- Implements infectious disease controls as appropriate and proper use of hand washing and gloves; and
- Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
